The FICB was developed by Asset Builders of America in 1999 to encourage high school students to learn more about budgeting, credit, economics, personal finance and investing. The FICB aligns with Wisconsin learning standards on Economics and Financial Literacy, and is a fun and productive way to supplement classroom instruction.
Students form teams of three or four students each, study, practice and eventually compete in a college-bowl tournament to showcase their knowledge. The winning team not only receives a trophy and fantastic prizes, but also has unlimited bragging rights for a year!
Every year, the FICB is held in Madison, the Menominee Indian Reservation, and Milwaukee, with new competitions planned for 2009-2010 in Wausau and Racine/Kenosha. In each location, the FICB enjoys the support of local school systems, the community and many volunteers. Since the first competition, over 1,000 students have participated and gained invaluable knowledge from this initiative.
Asset Builders very gratefully acknowledges the support of Precision Information LLC, publisher of the Educated Investor family of products, which provides the study materials and content found on this site.
